Under Appreciated Games: Use this thread to talk about games that you don't think got the time in the lime light that they deserved. Share a game or two. Really just see it as an opportunity to share something with everyone, rather than hate on everyone's opinion. Think we can do that?
Haunting Ground - 2005 - PS2 - Survival Horror
Capcom is one of my all time favorite game studios, and that's before you even get into the Street Fighters, Resident Evils, Megamans, and Devil May Crys. It's because of games like Haunting Ground,m and because of how well they execute the Survival Horror genre. Haunting Ground is a third person survival horror game set in modern day England. The basic story is that you, an 18 or 19 year old girl, experience a car crash with your parents. You wake up in a cage in a basement of what you eventually find out is a very old very large castle. How or why you were brought there are only two of the many things you will want to find out, while trying to escape in one piece. The game play is extraordinary, incorporating your character's fear as an actual in game handicap. The more time you spend around the bad guys running away, the more scared you become, cause some unpleasant effects. What you would call in game combat, is focused on evasion of, rather than engagement of the enemy. A great change of pace. The visuals, seeing as they came near the end of the generation, are way beyond most of the things seen on the PS2. The environments and sound create a very real and very unsettling setting for the game, and player immersion is not something you have to try to achieve here. I recommend this game for anyone who has ever enjoyed a horror movie or a survival horror game.
